We woke up bright and early, ready for a full day. It was already drizzling rain outside. By the time my son and I loaded into the car, it was pouring rain. I could barely see to drive. The windshield wipers were going as fast as they could. The sky was dark and gloomy. As I approached the interstate, my car almost hydroplaned due to all the standing water. The roads were beginning to flood.
This was the start of the day for my son’s check off scuba dive in a local quarry. It was less than ideal weather.
I turned to my son and asked, “are we crazy to still be driving to the quarry”? Of course his answer was a resounding “No mom, it will be fine”.
So, we drove. We laughed as I had to drive way below the speed limit due to limited visibility. It continued to look ominous and we continued to proceed to our destination. There were many negative thoughts that ran through my mind…why am I doing this? Why am I wasting my time? This is crazy! What are we doing?
But, I continued to drive.
As we arrived close to the quarry, the sky started to open. The rain lessened to barely a drizzle. We parked and my son got out of the car to put on his gear and the rain stopped.
Completely.
We walked down to the quarry and it was beautiful. The water was completely calm. My son and I looked at each other and smiled.
Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.
The rain will come. We will encounter dark and gloomy days. We will have circumstances that are less than ideal. There will be times our battle will be to take every thought captive and fight the negative words that attack our minds. Indeed, we are going through crazy times and we might have thoughts of, “why am I doing this? Why am I wasting my time? This is crazy! What are we doing?”
Press in my friend. Stay steadfast. Continue towards your destination. Cling to the truth that the battle is already won. The skies WILL clear and there is always victory in Jesus. God is good, rain or shine!
